Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) is a tropical tree found in Southeast Asia, and traditionally, it is being used for self-treatment of pain, anxiety, depression, and opioid use disorder. Based on ethnopharmacological use, a major alkaloid of kratom, mitragynine, has been identified for its significant pharmacological effects, and a physiologically based pharmacokinetic model in rats, dogs, and humans was developed for its clinical translation and prediction of drug interactions (created in BioRender).
